Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for you to work on this contract as our Surfacing Supervisor. You will primarily be responsible for the asphalt paving works undertaken. In this role you will, supervise the paving crew and associated subcontractors and suppliers for the range of asphalt paving works carried out in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region.
You’ll mentor, train and develop staff from foreman to manual labourer so everyone will know what’s expected and the crew produce high quality work. This role will suit an experienced asphalt foreman who can plan, coordinate, communicate and deliver both small and large packages of works for internal and external clients. Other key responsibilities will include;
- Make yourself familiar with the asphalt paving requirements of the department including the plant and ancillary equipment, with reference to relevant asphalt paving manuals or from historical data
- Assist in the planning and programming of the department’s forward works: monthly, weekly and daily
- Ensure resources are available and committed to undertake all planned asphalt paving works
- Ensuring that you understand and adhere to the requirements of the relevant “codes of practice” required for this industry
- Competent use of all electronic tablets or ipads for pre-starts, eDJRs, eTimsheets, costing sheets and CAMs (HSE system) so any incidents are immediately recorded and appropriate actions are identified and implemented
- Ensuring that regular dialogue and communications are maintained between yourself, the Surfacing department manager as well as other key subcontractors and suppliers
- To supervise and / or carry out works on time and to budget
You’ll use your good people skills to build genuine and lasting relationships with our customers, and our people (we’re one big whaanau). And you’ll have the skills and experience to help us achieve our strategic objectives.
Experience and attributes;
- 5yrs minimum with asphalting experience in a foremans role or similar
- Minimum Class 2 license, with WTR endorsements
- Relevant experience of industry principles and practical application
- Experience estimating material and worker requirements to achieve production
- Experience in staff management and ability to motivate team
- Relevant industry experience, including experience in asphalt and chip seal
- Be a motivated, inspiring leader
- Possess a solutions oriented, hands on approach
